Stanari Mine in Republic of Srpska, was the largest mine in Bosnia and Herzegovina, producing approximately 2.76 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Stanari Mine is owned by EFT Group. The second largest mine with approximately 2.58 mmtpa of ROM, was the Milici Bauxite Mine located in Republic of Srpska. The Milici Bauxite Mine is owned by Boksit ad Milici.
Gacko Opencast Mine located in Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was the third-largest mine, the Breza Coal Mine located in Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was the fourth-largest mine, and the Omarska Mine located in Republic of Srpska was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 2.44 mmtpa, 1.97 mmtpa and 1.89 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Gacko Opencast Mine is owned by Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske which is due to operate until 2027, the Breza Coal Mine is owned by JP Elektroprivreda BiH d.d. Sarajevo and the Omarska Mine is owned by ArcelorMittal SA;Rudnici zeljezne rude Ljubija ad Prijedor which is due to operate until 2028.
The five largest mines, i.e., Stanari Mine, Milici Bauxite Mine, Gacko Opencast Mine, Breza Coal Mine, and Omarska Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 11.64 mmtpa of ROM in 2021
