Kao Corp recycled or reused 194 thousand tonnes of total waste with a recycling rate of 92%, during the same year.

Kao Corp generated 723 tonnes of food waste in 2021, an 12% increase from 2020. Of the total food waste, 43 tonnes were effectively utilized. The consumer goods company used 106 thousand tonnes of plastic in its product packaging in 2021, a reduction of 10.6 thousand tonnes over 2020.

In order to achieve zero waste, Kao Corp aims to reduce landfill disposal and incineration rate to less than 1% by 2030.
