2023 began with the world discussing the power of ChatGPT, and the immense potential of Generative AI. This buzz has now reached a feverish pitch, with more than 100 million ChatGPT subscribers and almost 2 billion site visits per month, with an average time spend of around 10 minutes – very similar to Twitter and Facebook. One is almost immediately reminded of Bitcoin and theMetaverse in recent years, which similarly burst onto the scene, but have since tapered down. Will Generative AI go the same way?

Cryptocurrencies have been a on a wild ride over recent years, with initial enthusiasm fueled by the prospects of a new digital currency system that operated beyond the reach of central banks and national regulators. Some of the more high-profile cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum have delivered stellar returns for investors.
Low points for the crypto movement included China prohibiting firstly its financial institutions from engaging in crypto-related transactions; then banning all crypto-related mining activities; and finally, it banned cryptocurrencies altogether in September of last year. Meta abandoned its ‘Diem’ cryptocurrency project earlier this year after widespread pressure from regulators and politicians.
