Acadia and Geisinger break ground on Danville behavioural hospital
The 96-bed hospital will offer care for depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and psychosis.
Acadia Healthcare Company, in collaboration with value-based care services provider Geisinger Health, has commenced construction on a new behavioural health hospital in Danville, Pennsylvania, US.
Marking the start of construction, a ground-breaking ceremony was held at the site of the new facility at 206 Maria Hall Drive in Danville.
The 96-bed hospital, named ‘Geisinger Behavioral Health Center Danville’, will offer care for behavioural health disorders, including depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and psychosis.
Set to open in spring 2025, the facility will provide inpatient, intensive outpatient and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) treatment programmes for paediatric, adolescent, and adult patients.
This project is aimed at meeting the increasing demand for accessible behavioural health services in the central Pennsylvania region.
It is in line with Geisinger's goal to cater to more than 1.2 million people in 45 Pennsylvania counties across its service area.
Acadia Healthcare CEO Chris Hunter said: “We are so proud to work together with Geisinger to expand upon their legacy of compassionate care in this area.
"This hospital, like all across the Geisinger network, will become a strong member of the community, collaborating with all organisations, hospitals and first responders.”
Besides, Geisinger Behavioral Health Center Danville will function as a teaching hospital, contributing to the education of students and residents from Geisinger’s College of Health Sciences.
Geisinger president and CEO Terry Gilliland said: “This facility will be an important part of the solution to help us deliver on Geisinger’s mission to make better health easier for the communities we serve by expanding and enhancing access to behavioural health services.”
This development marks the second Pennsylvania hospital launched by Geisinger and Acadia under their joint venture.
The first, Geisinger Behavioral Health Center Northeast, launched in Moosic last year.
