Sonos is one of the leading sound experience brands and is headquartered in Santa Barbara, California. Its main products are Sonos speaker products, including wireless speakers and home theater speakers, Sonos system products, which largely comprise component products, and partner products and other revenue, including partnerships with IKEA and Sonance, Sonos, and third-party accessories.

It sells its products primarily through over 10,000 third-party physical retail stores, including custom installers of home audio systems, and through select e-commerce retailers and its website sonos.com. Its products are distributed in over 50 countries, with 48.1% of the revenue in FY2021 generated outside the US.

In FY2021, Sonos’s unit sales increased by 12% to 6.5 million units, as compared to 5.8 million units in FY2020. The volume growth of products sold for FY2021 was driven by growth in Sonos speakers and Sonos system products. Total revenue increased by $390.4 million, or 29.4%, for FY2021 as compared to FY2020 YoY. The rate of increase of the units sold and revenue differed for FY2021 as compared to FY2020 primarily due to product and channel mix on revenue. This volume growth was partially offset by volume declines by IKEA that slowed ordering modules due to the impacts of COVID-19 and because of cyclical product launches.

In April 2022 Sonos announced the acquisition of Mayht Holding a Netherlands-based company that invented a new, revolutionary approach to audio transducers. Under the terms of the agreement, Sonos acquired Mayht for approximately $100 million in existing cash on hand.

Sonos also recently launched a new product in its bass category the Sonos Sub Mini which is a wireless subwoofer.
