Returning items to the retailer or manufacturer produces a lot of waste since the original packaging just goes back to its origin.
Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd (ABFRL) is a fashion, lifestyle, and retail business provider. The company provides apparel and non-apparel. It provides apparel categories that include casual wear, formal wear, ethnic wear, party wear, and activewear for men, women, and kids among others. ABFRL provides non-apparel products including footwear, perfumes, cosmetics, handbags, fashion jewelry, watches, and others.
In the financial year (FY) ending 2022, ABFRL generated 3,736 tonnes of waste, an increase of 67.8% over FY2021.
The company achieved its “Zero Waste to Landfill” target across its operations. Of the total waste generated by the company non-hazardous waste form the major portion with 3,731 tonnes. ABFRL aims for 100% waste traceability across its operations by 2025.
Of the total waste diverted from landfill in FY2022, 1,814 tonnes of waste was recycled, 1,877 tonnes was reused, 42 tonnes was compostable, and 3 tonnes was incinerated.
