Lindbergh South Project in Alberta, was the largest mine in Canada, producing approximately 699.91 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Lindbergh South Project is owned by Korea National Oil Corp. The second largest mine with approximately 580.77 mmtpa of ROM, was the Burnt Lake Project located in Alberta. The Burnt Lake Project is owned by Canadian Natural Resources Ltd, and is due to operate until 2029.
Millennium Oil Sands Project located in Alberta was the third-largest mine, the Horizon Project located in Alberta was the fourth-largest mine, and the Christina Lake Project (Cenovus Energy Inc) located in Alberta was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 260.32 mmtpa, 204.01 mmtpa and 164.77 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Millennium Oil Sands Project is owned by Suncor Energy Inc which is due to operate until 2034, the Horizon Project is owned by Canadian Natural Resources Ltd which is due to operate until 2068 and the Christina Lake Project (Cenovus Energy Inc) is owned by Cenovus Energy Inc which is due to operate until 2046.
The five largest mines, i.e., Lindbergh South Project, Burnt Lake Project, Millennium Oil Sands Project, Horizon Project, and Christina Lake Project (Cenovus Energy Inc), cumulatively produced approximately 1,909.77 mmtpa of ROM in 2021
