Orapa Mine in Central District, was the largest mine in Botswana, producing approximately 10.58 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced diamond (8,902.44 thousand carats) in 2021. The Orapa Mine is owned by Anglo American Plc;Government of Botswana, and is due to operate until 2037. The second largest mine with approximately 10.17 mmtpa of ROM and primarily producing diamond (12,893 thousand carats), was the Jwaneng Mine located in Kgalagadi District. The Jwaneng Mine is owned by Anglo American Plc;Government of Botswana, and is due to operate until 2037.
