US firms sweep GlobalData’s list of top ten VC investors in cybersecurity space

All of the top ten venture capital (VC) investors, by number of investments in global cybersecurity space in 2020, were headquartered in the US, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company. Lightspeed Management managed to top the list as the firm participated in 15 VC funding rounds.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the digital transformation of global businesses, resulting in an increased focus on cybersecurity. Investors see this as a lucrative investment area, while US VC firms continue to remain proactive in placing bets in startups active in this space.”

The investors in GlobalData’s top 10 list participated in 101 funding rounds in 2020, compared to 93 in 2019. Meanwhile, the proportionate investment value of the VC firms also increased from $1.1bn in 2019 to $1.4bn in 2020. Lightspeed Management, which was the top firm by investment volume, also registered growth in both number of investments and proportionate investment value in 2020 compared to 2019.

Five among the top ten VC investors – namely Lightspeed Management, Sequoia Capital, Insight Partners, M12 and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers – showcased growth in the number of investments in 2020 compared to 2019.

Similarly, Lightspeed Management, Sequoia Capital, Insight Partners, M12, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Salesforce Ventures registered growth in proportionate investment value in 2020 compared to 2019.

Insight Partners registered the highest growth in the number of investments in 2020 as compared to 2019. Meanwhile, Salesforce Ventures registered the highest growth in proportionate investment value.
