ScS continues to make hay while the sun shines

ScS’ surge in orders has continued into August with a 51% like-for-like increase.

Matt Walton, Senior Data Analyst at GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company, offers his view on this news:

“ScS has joined both DFS and Dunelm in indicating that a post-lockdown bounce back for Home retailers has continued through the summer; like-for-like orders at ScS increased 51% for the six weeks to 5 September. Shoppers which kept their discretionary spend to a minimum during lockdown or had money set aside for foreign holidays have transferred this spend to buying home furnishings.

“This is an impressive recovery from a challenging Q2 for ScS, but momentum may come to a screeching halt during the final three months of the year. Uncertainty over whether the furlough scheme will be extended past October and the UK’s economic and political position will cool demand for big-ticket spend during Q4. A second wave of COVID-19 with multiple local, or a national, lockdown will also severely restrict sales in the run-up to the key post-Boxing Day sales period. ScS, and other furniture specialists, can’t sit comfortably just yet.”
