Neurodiagnostic companies offering one-time use products will experience faster recovery amid pandemic

Following the news that Brain Scientific will be offering a disposable version of its electroencephalogram (EEG) headset, the NeuroCap, in addition to enhanced features;

Sheryl Tang, Medical Deices Analyst at GlobalData, offers her view:

“Neurodiagnostic procedures have dropped significantly due to the COVID-19 impact for several reasons, including the suspension of elective and non-essential procedures. However, with the reintroduction of these procedures, the ongoing pandemic has highlighted the need for one-time use products and features that would enable better sanitary practice.

“The use of traditional EEGs requires technicians to sanitize the electrodes after every use, as well as close proximity to the patient for setup and duration of the test, which can take up to 45 minutes to complete. This puts medical professionals at risk for contracting the virus. The new disposable NeuroCap would allow for better sanitary practices, and its upgraded features for easier setup would decrease the time of close proximity between patients and medical professionals.

“Prior to the pandemic, GlobalData expected the neurodiagnostics market to grow at a slow but steady compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.5%, over the next ten years. However, as a result of the pandemic, neurodiagnostic procedures have decreased in 2020 and is expected to recover closer to the end of the year.

“GlobalData expects that companies such Brain Scientific will experience a faster recovery than other companies. By offering solutions, such as disposable caps and enhanced features in light of the current restraints of EEG testing during the pandemic, Brain Scientific is positioning itself to meet the demands of EEG testing amid the pandemic, and will recover faster than companies offering reusable devices.”
