Extra Space Storage’s job advertisements have doubled from 541 in June 2021 to over 1,500 in July, as the company seeks to develop partnership opportunities, expand its products and services, and diversify customer acquisition efforts, finds GlobalData. According to the leading data and analytics company’s Job Analytics Database, Extra Space Storage’s increased hiring activity is mostly focused around customer-facing roles to guide new customers through rental processes and agreements.

Ajay Thalluri, Business Fundamental Analyst at GlobalData, says: “Extra Space Storage kick started Q3 2021 with increased job postings in July 2021. Over 95% of total job postings between January and July 2021 relate to first-line supervisors such as ‘Store Manager’ and ‘Assistant Store Manager’. The company is also hosting hiring events to fill various openings in regions such as Midland-Odessa and Charleston Area.”

The company is expanding its presence in the US and has approved 12 wholly-owned acquisitions, according to its Q1 earnings call. Recently, in June 2021, it acquired a $18m storage facility in District Heights, Maryland. Prior to this, the company advertised for a ‘Sr. Director, Facility Services – East Coast’ position to provide due diligence and capital expenditure projections for new and acquired properties.

Additionally, Extra Space Storage plans to execute annual construction improvement projects for 600 to 900 properties, as evidenced by the hiring of a ‘Sr. Director, Facility Services’. The company is also modelling potential strategic opportunities through its ‘Real Estate Director’ role, while considering trade shows and property audits.

Thalluri adds: “Besides expansion plans, Extra Space Storage is leveraging software, emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), and data science to build intelligent and robust customer-facing solutions.”

Extra Space Storage is creating modern kiosks to support customer acquisition efforts on public e-commerce websites with its ‘Mid/Sr. Software Engineer – Kiosk’ role. Through its ‘Senior Director Call Center,’ role, the company looks to implement AI and build modern telecommunication systems for providing superior customer service.

Thalluri concludes: “Extra Space Storage is expanding its data science practise in areas of property acquisition and HR analytics. Also, the company advertised for a ‘Director, Total Rewards’ that shows it is implementing strategies to attract, reward, and retain top talent.”
