R&D Overview
S-Oil's R&D focuses on improving product quality and advancing production facilities to build on the company’s existing technology. The company’s Bunker-C Cracking Center being a crucial part of their facilities. The S-OIL R&D Center has various activities to help with the operation of the BCC. The R&D Center conducts research on improving production processes to create high-quality fuel oils and lubricants. By using the pilot plant equipment to select the best catalyst for each process, including the main processes of crude oil dismantling, the company is able to increase profits and ensure long-term production of high-quality products. The company has conducted research on creating environmentally friendly, low-polluting fuel oil for engines. They have developed S-Gasoline and S-Diesel, which have a sulfur content of 10 parts per million or less, making them much cleaner than their previous Super Clean and Super Diesel products. These fuels help to reduce emissions and protect the environment and drivers' health. S-OIL also produces high-quality gasoline and diesel to help maintain engine power and has won an Eco-Label for producing Clean Kerosene. Assets include an integrated aromatic-type petrochemicals complex in Ulsan comprising BTX facility, Xylene Center, Residue Fluidized Catalytic Cracker (RFCC) and No.2 Aromatic Complex. BTX produces aromatic petro-chemistry products such as toluene, benzene and xylene by adding naphtha. Xylene Center produces para-xylene, which is a base material of compound fiber, by adding C9+ as material and BTX product including xylene and toluene. RFCC produces propylene, a feedstock for poly propylene production, by using bunker-C oil as a raw material. Aromatic Complex produces para-xylene and benzene.
