02 Nov, 2018 Apple focuses investor attention on services, platform strength and future profits as it stops revealing unit sales
Posted in TechnologyFollowing yesterdays announcement (Thursday 1 November) that Apple will no longer reveal their unit sales figures,
Avi Greengart, Research Director for Consumer Platforms & Devices, at GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company, offers his view on this key development:
‘‘Apple has long complained that investors are overly focused on unit sales and not focused enough on Apple’s long term position — how services and platform strength will lead to future profits.
‘Stopping unit sales disclosure is a blunt way of addressing the issue, and investors understandably did not take the news well.
‘If Apple continues to grow its top and bottom lines going forward, the fact that analysts will have to guess at product mix and ASP won’t matter too much.’’
